December of this last year my sister and her now husband, then boyfriend, informed us that they were getting married in February and that we had better start planning the wedding. Well this was odd for all of us since there was no formal engagement, but fun and exciting just the same. So we are planning this wedding (true I didn't do much but the story flows better this way) and anticipating the actual engagement any day now. Truth be told I was anticipating this day for Kaye because Eric had already admitted to getting me an engagement ring, and that he had actually already picked it up. A secret which to my disappointment he spent the whole next week telling me he had made up.
Friday comes along and right before our date I get a bouquet of flowers sent to my house with my name on them, my wanna-be wedding colors wrapped around the vase in ribbon. So I'm excited and I must admit that maybe I did jump around the room a little in excitement, but all hope and trace of thought of my own engagement disappeared as we started the date off by shopping for lingerie for Kaye's bridal shower the next day. After finding my baby sister a suitable honeymoon "outfit" we headed to temple square and spent awhile walking around and sitting in the visitors center talking. Just as I think this adorable boy of mine is loosing his mind he leads me to the reflection pond, hands me some quarters, and tells me to make a few wishes into the reflection pond, telling me that for the wish to come true you had to close your eyes until the quarter hit the water. I do this a few times and after the third wish (I was secretly wishing he would just propose already) I look out and BAM! He's missing. Looking down I see him on one knee with a ring box in his hand. Like an idiot I just stand there, not saying anything, but for a moment he didn't either so its okay. Finally, kneeling in front of the temple, he tells me he loves me and asks me to marry him for eternity. Of course I say yes, at least I'm pretty sure I did, I cant remember anything I said really, just thinking, "is this real?" and after he slides the ring onto my finger he takes me to the Roof where the manager seats us next to a window with a perfect view of the temple.
Next comes a romantic carriage ride, that albeit cold, was beautiful. After we leave temple square we stop at a Village Inn for hot coco then return to my house to show the ring off to the family :) As it turns out the diamond in my ring was the wrong one, but we didn't know this for a month and that's a story for another time.
So I'm engaged first, we do Kaye's' whole bridal shower thing, the bridal pictures, then Kaye and B are finally officaily engaged, two short weeks and one long night preparing for the wedding/reception later, and the wedding day is finally here. Awww, cute, yay for them!!!
My turn again ;) So we wait a few weeks for things to die down and Eric and I start diving into our own wedding plans, which are coming along so fantastically! With my dress picked out, his tux picked out and both the wedding bands purchased I keep trying to convince both Eric and my family that Vegas will work out nicely for us, but to no avail. June 16th it is!
We have our colors picked, the reception all but done, found a tux for my honey and hopefully for the fathers as well, spent a few hours with mine and Eric's mothers finding a dress, decided on food, shopped for miscellaneous things, gotten shoes, figured out wedding party attire layouts, the cake, flowers and honeymoon are also underway, we have taken engagement pictures (don't worry that will be my next post!), and made breakfast arrangements.
Okay so the story wasn't so scatter brained and there aren't actually any pictures, but be sure that next time there will be. For now, just bask in the knowledge that while my parents may be frazzled, they are secretly having fun and that they are excited for Eric and I. :)
